Recognition works when it is frequent, specific and fair. One big reward a year weighs less than many small ones, given at the right moment and for a precise reason.

Recognition works when it is frequent, specific and fair. One big reward a year weighs less than many small ones, given at the right moment and for a precise reason.
«Good job» is forgotten in a minute. «You closed the client delivery two days early, and it saved us a week of chasing» stays. When recognition says what was done and why it mattered, it also teaches everyone else what counts.
Recognition divides people when it looks arbitrary. It helps to write the rules first: what is worth how much, who approves, when the reward arrives. And it helps when the reward always comes for work that someone checked, not for a self-declaration.
In Achivia every quest carries a reward in credits, decided in advance, that arrives when the delivery is approved. Medals for consistency unlock by themselves. «Go the Extra Mile» is the only one awarded by hand: a manager gives it to someone who went well beyond what the quest asked, and has to write why.
Credits are spent in the Marketplace, on real items shipped home: the person who receives the reward chooses it. Whoever runs the organization has a shared fund the rewards come from, and sees how much has been handed out.
Achivia is in open, free beta, in Europe and the United States.
